The pure and healthy air, the magnificent landscape, the clear and cool waters of the numerous springs, the courtesy and warmth of the people, offer the visitors a great sensation of suggestion. Naso is located on the top of a hill of the Nebrodi Mountains and, like many other great and famous cities of the past, its fame is due to the fact that it was founded by a deity, Agatirno, son of Aeolus, god of Wind, in 1218 b.C. It took the name of Agatirsi and it was situated in a place nearby San Martino hamlet, in the proximity of Capo d’Orlando. Titus Livy and Pliny told it was an important and peopled city; approximately in 901a.C., the Saracens destroyed it. The people escaped from the Saracen incursion, together with others escaped from Naxida, a city maybe located nearby Sant’Antonio hamlet, settled on the hill and founded Naso. The city went through several dominations: Saracens, Normans, Aragoneses, then it became a barony and after a count-ship. Boundary walls surrounded the city. There were five doors to get in, of which one is still visible in the eastern side of the town, while nothing remains of the ancient castle if not the name, today given to the promenade. The origins and the glorious past of Naso produced not only history, but even art and culture. Unfortunately many art works have been destroyed by frequent and terrible earthquakes happened in the centuries, anyway some of them still survive.
In summer time Naso looks different than in wintertime. The pleasant climate attracts hundreds of tourists that, after having taken a bath in the sea of the coastal towns, love to pass their nights walking in the streets of this hilly place.

The friary The Church dedicated to the Redeemer (S. Salvatore) The Church dedicated to San Cono
it is a historic characteristic and really suggestive building. Inside you can admire the ruins of the cloister, the gothic portal dated 1475, the carved and inlaid wooden altar made in 1694, the 16th century-Virgin of Gagini.

located in the homonymous quarter, it has a baroque façade, a paved with local fired bricks courtyard and a double bell tower. In the interior a visit should be paid to the marble triptych attributed to Antonello Gagini and to the oil-painting portraying Our Lady and the Child (16th century).

San Cono is the Patron of Naso. Inside the church there are many paintings made by different authors of the 17th century, one of them is Giuseppe Salerno named “the lame of Ganci”; also interesting is the Crypt of Relics, situated in the catacombs of the church and erected in 1649 in baroque style.
